There's a Remedy for That!

I don't really care for medications or harsh chemicals, and I'm always looking for home remedies and all natural ways to treat everything from indigestion to migraines. My medicine cabinet is full of essential oils and I use them for so many things.

  • Dry Scalp/Dandruff problems? - When applied to the scalp, peppermint oil makes the scalp less dry without creating excess oil and also helps to eliminate dandruff. You can add peppermint oil to directly to your scalp, mix it with a carrier oil like jojoba, olive, avocado, or almond oil, or dilute it with water in a spray bottle.
  • Headache? Insomnia? Stressed/Anxious? - Lavender oil can remedy all of these ailments. For headaches, add a few drops of lavender oil to a cold compress and apply it to the forehead or massage a few drops into the forehead, temples, and nape of the neck. To help induce sleep, just put a few drops of lavender oil on your pillow. If you're feeling stressed or anxious, you could apply lavender oil to your temples.
  • Muscle/Joint Pain? - Mix two drops of rosemary oil, two drops of peppermint oil, and one teaspoon of coconut oil and rub on sore muscles and painful joints to alleviate pain.
  • Feeling Gassy? There's a yoga pose for that.
    • Cat & Cow:
      • Get onto your hands and knees. Your body should be like a table, wrists aligned under the shoulders and knees under your hips.
      • Press the belly toward the floor. Lift the chin and tailbone toward the ceiling. (The Cow)
      • Reverse the movement. Lift the center of your back toward the ceiling tucking your tailbone and chin. (The Cat)
      • Link the cow and cat pose together. Inhale into the cow and exhale into the cat.
      • This pose can be used for both belly and back discomfort.
  • Hangover? We've all been there.
    • Lunge Twist:
      • Begin in Downward-Facing Dog pose.
      • Step your right leg forward so that the right knee is centered over the right ankle and the back leg is firm.
      • Bring your hands into Prayer pose in front on your chest.
      • Keeping your core tight and feet planted, rotate your torso to the right, raising your right elbow toward the ceiling and bringing your left elbow to the outside of your right knee.
      • Hold for 5 - 10 breaths. Repeat on the other side.
