Ready for 2020

So, the decade ends today, huh?!

Personally, I’ve been struggling to feel the way you do about the ending of this decade. Perhaps it’s because I’m not one to celebrate endings. Unless, there was some sort of win. Let’s make no mistake, I’ve had plenty of wins (and losses) this year, which we’ll get into later, but...

We’ve been here before -- setting new year resolutions, creating goals and not writing them down, being a “new you” in January and reverting to old ways before February arrives. Quite frankly, I’m sick of it.

With the freshness of January (and a new decade) I pray that you find it in yourself to do every and anything that is best for you, uninhibitedly you. As for me, I’ll be doing the same. To be completely honest with you, in December I told my best friend that the “new year” already began for me. No, I’m not a brand new person with new goals or resolutions. I’m the same me, continuing the journey I’ve started before the decade even began. I am better because I’ve taken the time to reflect internally and offline. I’ve started and I ask that you..

Don’t be afraid to be yourself.

Go after what’s yours, nothing else.

Don’t take things personally.

Stop caring about what everyone thinks.

Celebrate your wins and losses.

Remember, time is fleeting.. Do live in the moment.

And if you’ve made it this far, thank you for reading.

Below are a few of my highlights from the past ten years…

I finally landed my “dream” job after being denied the role three times. I travelled to Paris for the first time ever and got the opportunity to experience fashion just the way I’ve imagined -- at Fashion Week. I saw Nipsey Hussle perform live (I still cry sometimes). I planned events, some were great while others weren’t so successful. I moved out of my mother’s apartment and into my own on the Upper East Side of NYC and after a year and a half, I moved back home. I literally chopped all of my hair off Summer ‘16. I’ve lost friends and gained better ones. Most importantly, I’ve discovered just how awesome I actually I am.

I pray that the freshness of a new beginning brings you all that your heart desires.

Spread love, start now.

We’ll see you in January and every month thereafter.

With Love,

Shevon Monica
